From Distracted to Determined: Mikhenso’s Story

Mikhenso’s focus and confidence soared after joining Edublox, transforming from a struggling learner into a proud, motivated achiever.

Mikhenso’s story, summarised:

Mikhenso’s parents first became concerned about her concentration in Grade R after her teacher reported ongoing difficulties both at school and at home. Despite various attempts to help her focus, including structured tasks and new learning tools, she continued to struggle with completing activities independently.

After discovering a flyer for Edublox Phalaborwa, her mother enrolled her in the programme, where she has since shown significant improvements in reading, spelling, memory, comprehension, and classroom behaviour.

Mikhenso now reads confidently in multiple languages, earns discipline badges, actively participates in school, and displays stronger self-esteem and motivation. According to her mother, the support from Edublox has transformed her learning experience and overall progress.

The unedited version:

Ireen Malepe, Mikhenso’s mother, wrote:

Mikhenso grew up as a smart and clever girl. As bright as she is, she struggled with concentration—both at home and in class—when she was in Grade R. During the second term, her teacher called me and shared concerns about Mikhenso’s concentration. I informed the teacher that I would monitor her and try to train her to focus by giving her timed tasks. I asked the teacher to let me know if there was any progress.

In the third term, the teacher called me again to discuss Mikhenso. Upon my arrival, she explained that there was still no improvement. Based on her observations, she recommended that I seek help. I turned to Google to find ways to support a child with concentration difficulties.

At home, if you gave Mikhenso a task, she wouldn’t complete it unless supervised. She would start doing things you hadn’t asked her to do. Sometimes, I’d find her sitting quietly, clearly thinking about something else. I kept pushing her to complete different tasks, but it was difficult for her to concentrate. I remember fasting for three days, asking God to help me because I felt I was not winning. It was painful to see that she wasn’t being defiant—she was genuinely struggling.

Her father tried buying her many different toys, hoping they would help, but to no avail.

One day, when she came home from school, I found a flyer in her bag titled EDUBLOX PHALABORWA, explaining how they help children improve reading, spelling, and memory skills.

I registered Mikhenso at Edublox Phalaborwa, and I won’t stop her—she will attend until the final level offered. Since starting she has changed a lot. Her reading and spelling has improved—she reads with understanding in English, Sepedi, and Xitsonga and can now spell words she couldn’t before.

When she sees a signboard, she reads and explains what it means. She reads newspapers, magazines, and storybooks. She even asks me to read her a story at bedtime to help her fall asleep. In the second term, instead of negatives, she received a bronze badge for good discipline, followed by a silver badge. Since joining Edublox, Mikhenso’s memory has improved significantly. She grasps things quickly and can recall events from one or two years ago.

Her self-esteem is on another level. She tells me, “I’m not a failure. I was born to conquer anything that comes my way.” She says, “I’m smart, Mommy, and beautiful.”

She has transformed her behaviour. She’s no longer seen as a naughty learner but as a role model in her class. She earns badges for good discipline. Edublox has helped her become more motivated in her schoolwork. She cleans the classroom after school and invites her friends to help. She volunteers to assist teachers and was selected as Class Leader.

If you have a learner who struggles with concentration, reading, writing, or memory, there’s a special place called Edublox. Please take your child there—you will never regret it. Edublox will ease your worries about your child’s education, and you’ll smile every time you see their report card.

THANK YOU, EDUBLOX, FOR MAKING MY CHILD’S EDUCATION RESULTS THE BEST.
May God continue to bless the centre for many more years to come. Amen.
Edublox, you are my smile keeper!
