Edublox Annual Client Survey Results 2021-2015

Edublox has conducted an annual online client survey for more than ten years. The survey enables us to evaluate our company’s success and the efficacy and outcomes of our educational initiatives. Below are the results of 2021 to 2015.

2021

Selected feedback from parents, 2021:

• Edublox helped our child build confidence in reading English. Her maths marks even improved to 100% because of dedicated tutors and a fun learning environment.
• The one-on-one intensive course was probably the best investment in my child’s academic journey that we’ve made thus far. We were extremely impressed with the way she experienced the 2 weeks as well as with how quickly her confidence grew over those two weeks. Edublox has made a real difference in my child’s cognitive development, not just her reading ability. It has been evident in all aspects of her academic journey
• My son’s English and Afrikaans marks improved over 20 % each in the first term of attending classes.

• Ever since my twins started attending the Edublox classes there is quite an improvement in their results, and they have better understanding of their schoolwork. Homework time is now easy as they read with understanding and are able to do what is required in the tasks.
• My child has improved in schoolwork, especially in reading and writing sentences. I really appreciate the effort for the Edublox staff to help our children. Keep it up. I would like to encourage those parents whose children are struggling to take their kids to Edublox.

• When I fetch my child after school, he is physically tired and mentally exhausted, but after attending an Edublox class which only ends at 16:30, I find that my son has more mental and physical energy after the class. He is calm and happy. I highly recommend this program to everyone I meet.
• To be honest, my child hates going to Edublox – which child would actually be happy about a maths class on a Saturday? However, we can see a great improvement in his maths tests as well as his level of confidence when doing maths. The only reason he can read today (and extremely well) is because of his Edublox classes a few years back.

Questions and responses:

The annual survey is a valuable opportunity for parents to share compliments or problems with Edublox’s Head Office. We came across mentions of a few isolated issues that were addressed during the course of the year, but we would like to take the opportunity to address some of the comments from parents:

Q: Why can afternoon Edublox classes not be scheduled around my child’s other extramural activities?

A: Although we would love to accommodate every child, there are certain limitations that must be taken into consideration. Classes are scheduled at set times according to reading level and language preference, and in some cases there are up to 24 learners attending classes. Logistically, it is not always possible to accommodate all of the learners in large groups. While we do accommodate children where possible, we generally encourage parents to view Edublox classes as an important extramural activity that will benefit their children in the long run, and we appreciate their dedication towards attendance of the set class schedules.

Q: I’ve noticed that my child is not assisted with homework in the afternoons.

A: In some cases, franchisees make allowances for children who have transport difficulties to spend the afternoons at their premises after school and after their Edublox classes until their transport arrives. This is time usually spent doing homework, but unfortunately there are no tutors available to focus on homework assistance. Edublox strives to equip children with the skills to become independent learners who can complete their homework confidently – but one-on-one homework assistance after school is not included in our services.

Q: Is it possible to sit down with the Edublox staff once a quarter to discuss a learner’s performance?

A: We encourage Edublox franchisees to provide development reports to parents every six months from the day a child starts with the programme. We believe that there is no quick fix to addressing reading and learning problems. Improving cognitive skills, like auditory memory, is a long-term project. Improving a child’s auditory digit span from 4 (poor) to 6 (average) can take up to a year. Quarterly reports therefore tend to discourage learners and parents if they don’t show results immediately. Also consider that not all learners attend the same number of classes and follow the same programmes. That being said, if you feel there are communication gaps around your child’s progress, please feel free to approach your local Edublox franchisee and please notify the Edublox Head Office in your queries are not resolved to your satisfaction.

Q: It bothers me that I’m paying for lessons that are being missed during school holidays. I was hoping that we could make up those lessons…

A: Rest assured, our lessons are arranged according to a national schedule and we cater for school holidays in order to cover required lessons during the school terms. When parents sign a contract for a fee over a contract period, it means that we take that total amount and divide it by the number of months that the child attends classes to accommodate parents as far as possible. Don’t think of it as a monthly charge for attended classes – it’s more of a monthly instalment of the total amount for the period.

• The effort of Edublox is indeed rewarding. The grades of my child improved phenomenally since she joined the programme.

Q: Why are children of different ages grouped together in the same classes?

A: Children are assigned to classes based on their cognitive skills and reading levels as per their initial assessment results and not according to age groups. This allows for tutors to better address the difficulties experienced by a specific group and to avoid presenting a generic lesson that not all children can benefit from.

Q: I’m receiving quarterly reports at other reading and learning help institutions. Why does Edublox only provide a progress report every six months?

A: At Edublox, we believe that there is no quick fix to addressing reading and learning problems. Improving cognitive skills, like auditory memory, is a long-term project. Improving a child’s auditory digit span from 4 (poor) to 6 (average) can take up to a year. Quarterly reports therefore tend to discourage learners and parents if they don’t show results immediately. Also consider that not all learners attend the same amount of classes and follow the same programmes.

For us, the most important measurement of success is the improvement of school results on the long term, but most parents notice some improvement in the aspects and difficulties that prompted them to approach Edublox in the first place quite soon.

That being said, we are continually investigating how we can improve the reporting experience and communication to parents.

Q: Why are tutors allowed to take their cell phones into classes?

A: Certain franchises make use of WhatsApp as a direct communication medium between tutors and parents, and this channel might be of use in case of an emergency.

2015

Since 2010 we have been asking our customers to complete an online survey once a year to help us measure our educational and business performance. Even clients who have just started with classes are included in the survey. Every year the key question, “Did your child’s academic performance improve at school?” received on average a 90% positive rating – but this year it was not the same.

The 2015 survey was completed by more than 350 clients; thank you for your feedback, it is highly appreciated.

The surprise with the latest survey is that a 94% positive rating was achieved in response to the question whether school performance has improved. This is an excellent result which is 4% higher than before. It inspires each and every Edublox tutor to aim for the best and work harder to find ways to also better the learning of those children who have not improved adequately. Another highlight is that 85% of respondents fully agreed that they are willing to recommend Edublox to other parents.

Very specific areas of improvement has also been identified e.g. more consistent communication to clients specifically about learner progress. We are currently exploring ways and means to enhance the Edublox experience for clients at all 20 clinics in Southern Africa.

• Words can never explain how grateful I am with the level of improvement on my son’s academic records. I never knew how wonderful it feels to be one of those parents who shows staff members a child’s academic report. I wish I knew long ago about Edublox. You guys are really heavenly sent. Thank you so much and I hope next year will be as fulfilling and uplifting as 2015 has been.
• I see the change in my child’s attitude towards reading and learning. There are two teachers who noticed the difference, only one teacher didn’t. His 3rd term report card showed some improvement. I am satisfied as it is a journey that we have to travel with the right pace. If I had money, I would enrol him for the whole year and remove him from the mainstream school.
• Freddy has remarkably improved in his reading, spelling and learning confidence. He is more willing and able to try his level best now in whatever learning activity is presented to him. I am so lucky a friend recommended me to enrol him with EDUBLOX as he was finding it really hard to concentrate at any given activity. Will surely have him continue with the classes next year.
