Kitarah van Reenen, Yazmeen’s mother, wrote:

My journey with my daughter, Yazmeen, began in 2021, when we decided to transfer her to a school closer to home. It was important to me that she and her younger sister attend the same school — not just for convenience, but so they could grow up together, sharing memories and supporting one another.

In March of that year, Yazmeen’s Grade 5 teachers called us in. They had noticed she was often distracted in class, daydreaming, and struggling to complete her work. As a mother, I was overwhelmed and unsure of what steps to take. Thankfully, one of her teachers recommended that we have her assessed by an educational psychologist. That assessment revealed that Yazmeen had ADHD (inattentive type) and dyslexia.

Even before the diagnosis, I had sensed something was amiss. Yazmeen could read, but she didn’t understand what she was reading. She could solve math problems with me, but when asked to do them on her own, she was lost. During my earlier research, I had come across Edublox, but I hesitated to take the next step. After her diagnosis, I remembered Edublox again — and this time, I followed through. It felt like divine intervention.

What made the decision easier was that Edublox had a branch in Rylands, which was conveniently located for us. In October 2021, Yazmeen officially began her Edublox journey. The progress was noticeable — her first exam after starting showed improvement. Her work became more consistent, and she began doing her homework independently. Her anxiety decreased, and her confidence grew.

After a year at Edublox, Yazmeen earned a Certificate of Excellence in Grade 6 for Afrikaans Addisionele Taal, Natural Science and Technology, and Life Skills. Today, she is in Grade 9 and still attending Edublox. Her current teacher has even praised her as one of the strongest English language students in the class. A recent 2025 assessment by an educational psychologist confirmed significant improvement in her English skills compared to her previous evaluation.
