From Being Embarrassed to Read to Reading a New Book Every Two Weeks

Edublox has not only helped her academically but has also boosted her self-esteem and motivation. She now looks forward to school.
  • “I felt embarrassed when my classmates made fun of me for not being able to read well. It was hard to keep up in class, and my grades reflected that,” tells Buhlebenkosi.
  • Her English marks jumped from 41% to 83% in only two terms.
  • “Edublox has not only helped her academically but has also boosted her self-esteem and motivation,” says Nomsa, Buhlebenkosi’s mom.

Buhlebenkosi tells her own story:

My name is Buhlebenkosi Ramahala and I want to share my experience with Edublox. For a long time, I struggled with reading, and it really affected my confidence. I felt embarrassed when my classmates made fun of me for not being able to read well. It was hard to keep up in class, and my grades reflected that. I often got 4s and sometimes even lower grades.

My mother decided to enrol me at Edublox to help me with my reading and spelling difficulties. The tutors there were so supportive and really helped me understand reading better. They used methods that were not used in my school to help me learn how to read. Now, I’m proud to say that my marks have improved, and I even got 7 for English First Language for the third term of school.

I can now read better and understand what I’m reading. My mother keeps encouraging me to practise so that I can be perfect. I even enjoy reading books now and have made it a goal to read at least one book every 2 weeks. I even find myself laughing when reading fun stories in books.

I’m grateful for the support I received from my Edublox teachers who are always  kind and patient with me.

I continue to practice spelling words and read so that I can get better and better.

Buhlebenkosi’s mom shares:

As a parent, it was incredibly difficult to watch my daughter struggle with reading and spelling, especially from the COVID-19 pandemic period at its onset. She was at a foundation phase and learning how to read while going to school in rotational timetabling schedules of 2 to 3 days of school attendance per week.

It was heartbreaking to see her frustration and disappointment. She felt overwhelmed by the material she was supposed to learn and yet was unable to read like kids in her age group.

Thankfully, we found Edublox. From the moment she joined, the staff took the time to assess her individual needs and place her in a learning program plan that focused on building her foundational skills. The program addressed her reading and spelling challenges and fostered a supportive and encouraging environment. Over the past months, I’ve witnessed a remarkable transformation in her reading fluency. She now approaches texts with confidence.

The spelling exercises, including reading plans she’s learned, have made a world of difference in her reading for meaning. Most importantly, she has gained a love for learning and feels proud of her progress.

Edublox has not only helped her academically but has also boosted her self-esteem and motivation. She now looks forward to school. I am incredibly grateful for the positive impact Edublox has had on her educational journey and personal growth. I wholeheartedly recommend Edublox to any parent seeking a nurturing and effective environment to help their child thrive.

Buhlebenkosi’s school teacher commends her improvement:

Today, I want to take a moment to celebrate an exceptional learner whose journey exemplifies resilience and growth. From Term 1 to Term 3, Buhle has shown remarkable improvement in her marks, transforming challenges into triumphs. This change wasn’t just about grades; it was about a shift in her attitude toward school.

In Term 1, Buhle often appeared disengaged and hesitant to participate in lessons and activities. She had an average of 41% for English Home Language in Term 1.

In Term 2, Buhle still faced difficulties, receiving an average of 42% for English by the end of Term 2, but instead of giving up, she sought help and embraced her learning with determination. By Term 3, her hard work paid off, and her grades soared with an average of 83% for English. More importantly, her newfound enthusiasm has inspired her classmates and teachers alike.

Buhlebenkosi’s school report shows huge improvement between Term 1 and 3

Let this be a reminder that challenges can be stepping stones to success. Buhle, your dedication and positive spirit show us all that with effort and the right mindset, we can achieve great things. Keep shining and striving for excellence!
