We as McKayla’s parents decided to enrol her in Edublox, because the school she attends starts writing exams in Grade 3. I have noticed that she struggles with comprehension and remembering important facts. She also needed to cope with more workload and “learn” time management.
I was at first a bit sceptic about enrolling her, as she is clever and intelligent and I felt teachers are there to teach them. The first term was especially hard for all of us as we did put in a lot of hard work. Towards the second term McKayla started working (and demanding to work) more independently. Towards the fourth term she was able to set up her own study time table and she stuck to it. She doesn’t need to be told or reminded to do homework. She still recalls information and facts from last year. It has now become a ‘game’ with her to see how much she can remember.
She realizes that reading through any piece of literature requires your undivided attention. She would still miss a few facts here and there, but she does realize when doing comprehension that facts are missing. It is an ongoing process to learn and we are happy to do so with her.
