Natascha is the youngest of three sisters. There is a four and six year gap between her and her sisters. Both of her sisters excelled academically, in sport and music. Natascha always felt that she was growing up in their shadows and struggled with a low self esteem. To exacerbate matters she suffers from dyslexia and has to poor eyesight.
We soon realized that Natascha’s below average reading and writing skills were at the core of all her problems and as soon as she could conquer her dyslexia she would improve in all the other learning areas as well.
Before we heard of Edublox we tried out a number of other approaches. However, most of these simply helped with the school curriculum and did not address the cause. Thus her language marks improved but the underlying cause was not solved. She also felt that she was one of the “dumb” kids that needed extra classes. This made her withdrawn at school.
The difference Edublox made to Natascha cannot simply be expressed by looking at her school results. She already scored 75% in mathematics before she started on the program; a 5% improvement to 80% does not sound as dramatic as the 10% improvement in English.
The real advantage of Edublox is the way in which her self-confidence and general approach to school work improved. The first positive sign was that we did not have to push her to go to classes. Then she started to read more. The major breakthrough came when we bought her a pattern game (Rubik’s Race) and she became the undisputed champion in our household. Now she was best in something!
Who would have thought that she would ever represent her class in a spelling Bee or get the only A++ in the speech festival? In grade six she was on the learner council and the star helper in the tuck shop. She also started piano and played guitar in the school ensemble.
Edublox undoubtedly helped Natascha to be confident enough to become a prefect, to pass her grade I music theory and classical guitar exams and to achieve better marks in all her subjects. For the first time she believes that she can get academic colours!
THANK YOU EDUBLOX!
