Our daughter Jade Clark who is currently in Grade 5, joined the EASY Programme at Edublox Kloof in February 2016.
Jade has been in support classes and remedial units in local schools since Grade 1 and had attended speech therapy and occupational therapy since the age of 3 years old up until the age of 9 years old (Grade 3).
At the tender age of 3 years old we discovered that Jade had low muscle tone and required occupational therapy, we also discovered that she was partially deaf until she had grommets inserted and had to attend speech therapy as she had missed out on hearing very faint sounds/noises. We also discovered that Jade was very very far sighted and everything up close was extremely blurry and she has been wearing glasses ever since.
During Grade 4 (2015) although, academically, Jade has always done pretty well, we realised that she was really struggling with maths and her teacher at one of our local schools advised that Jade attend extra maths lessons to help her. She had spent the entire year doing extra maths, but she was still struggling. Jade’s self-esteem and self-confidence also dropped dramatically in Grade 4. During this time, Jade’s eyelids were bald as she had taken to pulling her eyelashes out and also resorted to biting her nails.
At the start of 2016 at one of the local schools, Jade came home with some maths homework. Out of the 6 sums that she was given she only got one correct, I thought … “No, after a year of extra maths she should have grasped the work.” I decided to take Jade for an assessment at Edublox. After Marj gave us Jade’s results and told us that they would be able to help her that the Clinic, we were contemplating Jade go for extra maths and reading lessons at Edublox Clinic after attending regular school. As we were about to leave, Marj mentioned the EASY Programme. It was a unanimous decision/agreement between my folks and Jade’s dad and I that the EASY Programme was most definitely the route to take for Jade. We enrolled her immediately.
Within the first couple of weeks of Jade joining the EASY Programme, her self-esteem and self-confidence have been rising daily. She is very keen and eager to learn and to do her homework (which wasn’t the case before). I was pleased to tears to hear from Marj that Jade received 72% for her first maths exam (previously Jade always used to get between 30% and 50% for her maths tests and exams).
We look forward to Jade continuing to grow in self-esteem and self-confidence and her maths results to sky rocket. As her mother, such a weight and burden has been lifted off my shoulders, knowing that my child is doing so very well in all areas. Not only have her eyelashes grown back but her nails are the longest that I have seen them in a very long time. She told me just recently, that she didn’t know what to do before, the work was so hard and that she didn’t understand it. She tells me now that, at Edublox, she understands the work that she is being taught by her Edublox teachers and, what’s more, she is very eager to get to school every morning.
I would just like to thank Marj, Dylan, Tammy and Gill for the marvellous input that you are putting into Jade’s life, we are so very grateful.
