Benjamin and his mother travelled from Uganda to South Africa to attend our 10-day one-on-one course. This is his story, as told by his mother Esther:
One-on-one tutoring package
The Edublox one-on-one training for 9-year-old Areli Benjamin, Grade 5, took place in Pretoria, South Africa from the 28th April-9th May 2014. The parents of Benjamin noted that their son exhibited some learning challenges. These included:
- Letter and word reversals
- Slow reading speed
- Poor comprehension
- Poor memory
- Poor handwriting and
- General low self-esteem.
The one-on-one package involved various activities such as the face-to-face training with a specialized tutor in the Edublox program.
Benjamin had the opportunity to interact with other students in an Edublox class. This class equips children with comprehension skills using short stories, spelling exercises that teach the correct spelling of words, plus logical thinking.
A child-friendly environment helped Benjamin to relax after a day’s hard work.
The Edublox program was able to help Benjamin overcome up to 70% of his learning challenges and therefore a follow-up program was issued to Benjamin’s parents to help bridge the 30% gap. Benjamin was also awarded with a certificate of good performance.

Observations
- When we started the program Benjamin was very shy and had a low self-esteem, but by the time we finished the program, his self-esteem and confidence had been restored.
- He was able to build up to 30 blocks at one sitting. That was indicative of an improvement in his memory.
- The words in the Edublox manual are excellent. He was able to read them with ease and spell them correctly, and he could remember the meanings of all the words he had learnt.
- His vocabulary has also greatly improved.
Benjamin began his Grade 5 with enthusiasm and with great interest. The past two weeks have been very motivating for him in his new class because he has literally been passing all his class work. Recently we read a story book and the reversal errors have significantly reduced, though he occasionally makes mistakes. His fear of reading has completely vanished. Even when he makes mistakes he does not fear to read anymore.
We look forward to seeing Benjamin overcoming his challenge 100%. We are working tirelessly to help him get there. Thanks to the Edublox team that was very generous and hospitable to us during our two weeks stay in Pretoria. We look forward to partnering with you to help young people attain their God given potential.
While there is no ‘quick-fix’ for learning failure and learning difficulties, our intensive one-on-one course has proved to accelerate results and will help your child take a giant leap forward!
After the intensive one-on-one course, the learner will ideally continue with the weekly Edublox classes or continue with one of the Edublox home programs.
